Stay hot all night long - beauty tips

Stay hot all night long - beauty tips

Melting Self tanner

Ok so before you hit the sheets (or a casting) you want to make sure he see your post sexy glow NOT your faux glow all over his sheets (or the designers samples).  Run into the bathroom and take out your translucent face powder - dust the sweaty prone areas (back, neck, cleavage).  The layer will minimize the risk of rub off later by absorbing the sweat.

To repair a mane malfunction - Bad hair days suck, even more when frizz and fly aways attack - reach in your over sized handbag for a hand cream.  A dime sized drop with equal amounts of water to create a smoothing serum.  If your hair is wavy scrunch the cream over the head to hydrate and refine coils.  For straight strands rub the mixture along the fuzzy areas.

Oil slicked skin - If you find yourself looking shiny while pulling of your sexy dance moves run into the bathroom and blot your face with toilet seat covers.  Suggested by pros (they are made to be super absorbent).  Don't apply face powder over sweat or it will look cakey.

Soothe Red Blotchy Skin
If you find yourself in a awkward situation like the first date or even running late for you next casting.  Anxiety can send blood vessels into overdrive.  If you suffer from red skin carry a bottle of iced cold water and head tot he bathroom.  Rub a paper towel under the cold water and rest it against the inflamed area to bring down the redness.  Phew you will look radiant and in control again.

Dehydrate Greasy hair
You can create your own dry shampoo when your out and about.  Grab that compact out of your designer handbag and pat the roots.  Be sure to tousle your hair to blend the powder in.  It will absorb the excess oils in your hair and even add volume.

Skinny women who want to gain weight

Skinny women who want to gain weight

I have ran into many models and women funny enough who try to gain weight but no matter how much they eat they just can't seem to gain more than 5 pounds (1/2 stone).  I was even one of them when I tried to become a plus size model.  Skinny women can have just as a hard time to gain weight like women who try to lose weight.

Eat to control cravings and boost energy

Skinny women's desires to gain weight is never taken too seriously.  For example after a good workout at a unnamed gym in Manhattan I went over to the smoothie bar.  I asked for the shake overloaded with calories and the server just laughed at me.  He shouted my order out loud in front of the other trainers and a chorus of laughter errupted.

One thing skinny women have to be aware of is poor eating habits like snacking late in the night.  Over indulging on sweet stuff  because one can get away with it.  Not the way to go.

There is less research for lean women with fast metabolism but here are a few tips to get a few extra pounds on the bone:

1. Keep away from tradmills and stair stepper machines.  You will lose more weight

2. Gain muscle by lifting weights with exercising.  A trainer can guide you on how many reps and sets to do.  Muscle distributes itself evenly across the body.  Nice!!

3. Keep a journal on the amount of calories you consume in a week,  Add another 500 calories to your normal calorie intake.  After a few weeks check to see if you notice a difference.  If not add another 500 more until you begin to gain weight.

4. Eat six times a day rather than the traditional three.  This recommendation is a benefit for all people of all sizes.  Higher amounts of nutrients are absorbed by the body.

5.  Eat 20 to 30% of your calorie intake in unsaturated fats to provide your body with essential fatty acids.   Try
     Avocados, nuts and oils.

6. If you have a hard time eating six meals, drink a meal replacement powder enriched with vitamins.

7. Eat more good nourishing food then more saturated fat that can end up anywhere.

8. Make sure 30-60% of your calories are in carbohydrates.  Such as broccoli, sweet corn, oats, brown rice, poasta, grains, black beans and potatoes

Is my model partner cheating on me???

Is my model partner cheating on me???

If your going to be a model there are a few ethical issues to consider when your booked for a shoot.  It could be that you refuse to shoot partially nude, suggestive poses or modeling cigarettes.  Well what about kissing another model?  This is something to think about if your dating an insecure partner.  Make sure you discuss this with your real partner before you accept these modeling jobs.

As a character model (model who acts) I was greeted by the art director at the studio and introduced to my on set boyfriend (another model).  Is was an intimate scene of a happy couple spending time together.  We were told to spend 30mins getting to know each other.  In other words in order to make the photo shoot seem realistic we had to feel the chemistry with each other IMMEDIATELY.  So we started talking and flirting with each other to find that spark for the shoot.  We found it alright, he is a hot, cute guy.  So when it came to the shoot we got it on right away.

However, I felt like I was cheating and couldn't help think about my husband.  Holding very close poses, breathing on each other as the photographer re positions the lights.  One scene can take up to an hour to shoot.  Fashion models do it all the time and believe me the set gets very steamy.

Luckily my husband doesn't show up on set but I think it's odd that I get paid to kiss another man and not break my vows at the same time.
That night I felt strange to be around my husband after spending the whole day rolling around on set with another man and building a bond.  Some models find it hard to leave the bond behind at the studio.  The experience affects them and leaves them to day dream about the experience.

Then there are the simple couple shoots with less intimacy involved.  Just fun happy shots with no pressure.

I must admit on some shoots it affected me but my husband is wonderful.  He knows as a model I play the wifey role (always for some reason) BUT he made it clear as long as he doesn't see the pictures he is fine with it.

shhhh don't tell.

Different types of modeling

Type of modeling jobs

Fashion Modeling

When we think of models generally we think about the tall slim fashion models used at the top fashion shows around the world in New York, London & Paris.  These supermodels who model the latest collections for the top fashion houses are extremely well paid.  Some are celebrities as well as fashion models appearing on magazine covers.

Commercial Modeling

Models are needed to promote all kinds of products including food, holidays, cars, furniture, lifestyle, shops and hotels.
Advertising Modeling comes in many different forms from TV, newspapers, magazine and billboard adverts. Skills in acting might set you apart from the rest, as well as an outgoing personality and strong self presentation skills.

Modeling for TV & Films

Film and TV companies often have a specific look in mind for their filming and very often a model fits the bill! Appearances can start as an audience member, extra or walk on, background artist or featured role in a TV series, film or video. Once you started to get your foot in the door make sure you keep a show reel of what you have appeared in, as this could generate more TV and Film Modeling

You don't have to be a fully trained actor to appear on TV or in films, most casting agents are looking for an outgoing personality, looks that set you apart from everyone else and confidence.

Catalogue modeling for babies, children

Catalogue modeling can easily fit around anyone’s life as either a full or part time profession and usually attracts parents, who either model themselves or manage their child’s modeling career.

E- Catalogues and paper catalogues such as Gap, Carters, The Next Directory, Freemans, Kays and Look Again use many models from new born babies, children, teens, male and female models selling everyday products to consumers. Catalogue modeling can provide regular work because of the change in seasons each year which launches new clothing and trends. Pay is usually generous within this sector because of the vast number of images that are taken to display the ranges of clothes stocked by the company. These pictures are displayed in both print and online catalogues.

Believe it or not modeling is a business

I would live to share some tips with you on the business side of modeling.  Ill be giving away a book on modeling advice to the reader with the most interesting comment.

When I first got started in modeling I was in disbelief that models are running a business.  If your thinking the same the product is the model, whether it be:
the face (beauty models)
the body (bikini/fashion models)
the parts (specialty models)
the hair (hair models)

the list goes on...... but a model SHOULD know how to market themselves in the industry in order to be seen and sometimes heard.

To become a successful model:

* Network - Agencies can only help part of the way with their extensive list of contacts in the business, but a model must also network at industry parties, tradeshows and events to gain more contacts hence more bookings.

* Finances -  I strongly advise saving some reserves before becoming a model because pay checks can take forever to be received (3-6 months) depending on the type of work.

* Book keeping - important since you will often have to remind agencies and clients to pay you after submitting your own invoice.  Yes an invoice.

* Tax deductions - Retaining all business related receipts.  I've met many models who didn't know about this.  You can deduct your expenses at the end of the tax year for makeup, fashionable attire, business meals, business trips, manicure, photoshoots, phone bill, internet bill, business gifts, travel expenses, website costs etc.....

* Giving back - You are probably wondering what I mean't by business gifts.  Yes gifts you SHOULD send to people that have helped advance your modeling career like photographers, agencies and your repeat clients.  Thank you/appreciation gifts goes a long way in this business ;-)

* Keeping up to date - keep up to date with your marketing materials (portfolio, business cards) and knowledge in the fashion industry.

Lose weight at Mcdonalds - fashion models diet

Eating Mcdonalds every day while on a diet to become a fashion model helped me to loose weight. This sounds funny but back in 2004 I had to loose 30 Lbs to satisfy my agent. So eating healthy while out on the road between castings and auditions was expensive and time consuming. So one day I went to Mcdonald's and ate salad every single day.
A different salad a day with juice and apple dippers. Back then there was only a few salads on the menu to choose from. Now there are more choices every day of the week. Make sure you don't take the dressings as they are loaded with calories. So much calories equivalent to a meal.
So dress the salad with a lemon wedge or balsamic vinegar.

If you have a crazy models diet you want to share with us let me know......

What is the best swimsuit for my figure?

If I have a long torso?
Try a bikini with high cut legs to give the impression of a shorter torso and longer legs.  If you prefer a one piece swimsuit then be sure it has a cut out in the front.  Just like a bikini, this will break up the long torso.  Choose a style with fringes and ruffles to compliment your body shape, since you are likely to have narrow hips.

If I have a short torso?
Try a bikini with a halter neck top and a bikini bottom that sits low on your waist.  The top will emphasize the bust and shoulders.  If you prefer a one piece suit then wear a solid colour suit with a low neck line.  This will give a leaner appearance.

If I have a pear shaped body?
Try mixing a bright patterned bikini or tankini top with a solid dark bottom.  This look will draw the attention to your top half.  Be sure to keep the bottom half simple by avoiding skimpy bottoms or with ruffles and details.

What swimsuit should I wear if I have a small bust line?
To add shape and maximise cleavage to your bust line try a bikini with triangle-shaped cups and a tie front.  If you love a lift try bikinis with padding and under wire.  Avoid a bikini top that is ill fitting with too much fabric.
Bikini tops with ruffles are great for concealing the bust are and are fun to wear.

What swimsuit should I wear if I have a large bust?
Try a one piece suit with structure in the bust area like a shelf bra.  Straps should be wide on all suits if you want to help minimize your bust.  Halter top bikinis offer great support while giving a sexy cleavage look.  Make sure the halter top can be banded around the midriff area and behind the neck.  Adjusting the bands and straps will provide you with more comfort and lift.
